Burkina Faso: 104 billion CFA francs to make energy a driver of sovereignty

In Burkina Faso, energy sovereignty is taking on a very concrete form. With a sector-wide initiative estimated at 104.175 billion CFA francs, the government is embarking on a new phase in its energy policy: upgrading infrastructure, expanding networks, and bringing electricity to areas where it can bring about lasting economic and social change.

The aging of the electricity transmission infrastructure has long been an obstacle to grid stability and the expansion of access. The government now intends to address this structural constraint. The replacement of equipment should increase the capacity of the electric system, while the expansion of the distribution network should open up new areas for electrification.

This strategy is centered on the RELANCE Plan and the National Energy Pact. The benefits directly reach the heart of households. 250,000 households are receiving light and a new sense of renewal. In rural areas as well as in suburban areas, the grid is expanding systematically. Rural schools are gaining high-quality lighting to support student learning.

Healthcare facilities enhance the safety of patient care. Small and medium-sized businesses find the technical stability essential for the creation of sustainable jobs.

This major policy decision reaffirms a conviction: true independence requires control over vital infrastructure. Funding for this sector-specific initiative ensures affordable access for all and strengthens the foundations of the economy. This strategic direction paves the way for equitable prosperity, grounded in self-determination and collective effort.

The country is moving forward with its head held high toward a future where sovereign energy sustainably illuminates the nation’s path.
