Burkina Faso: 250 billion CFA francs raised as the FSP smashes its targets

The Patriotic Support Fund (FSP) has just crossed a historic milestone. From 1 January to 29 September 2026, it mobilized the colossal sum of 250,158,437,479 CFA francs, against an initial annual forecast of 200 billion CFA francs. An exceptional performance that reflects the massive support of the Burkinabè people for the national refoundation project led by Captain Ibrahim Traoré.

The figures speak for themselves. In just nine months, the FSP not only reached but far exceeded its annual target, with a completion rate of 125%.

This achievement is part of a trend already observed in previous years: in 2023, the fund collected 99 billion CFA francs out of 100 billion expected; in 2024, 175 billion out of 150 billion; and in 2025, more than 222 billion against a forecast of 150 billion.

This success rests on the generosity and commitment of millions of Burkinabe, both inside the country and within the diaspora. Civil servants, traders, farmers, pupils and students all contribute according to their means to this collective effort.

The Fund embodies the ability of the Burkinabe people to take control of their destiny and finance their own security, without depending on the outside.

The impact of the FSP is tangible on the ground. Thanks to these resources, the State has been able to acquire strategic equipment, including combat helicopters, armored vehicles, weapons and ammunition, without external support.

The fund has also financed infrastructure, including the asphalting of the Kaya-Barsalogho section, and supported the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) as well as the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).

As the Minister of Economy, Aboubakar Nacanabo, stressed: “Thanks to the Patriotic Support Fund, we acquired helicopters in 2025. No partner was going to give us money to buy combat helicopters.”

The growing support for the FSP is based on the transparency of its management. An orientation council chaired by the Prime Minister meets every quarter, a management committee meets monthly, and the fund is subject to audits by the Higher State Audit Authority. In June 2026, four civil society organizations joined the Orientation Council, strengthening the diversity and credibility of its governance.

Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo summarized the Fund’s ambition: “Together, we must continue to make the Fund an exemplary instrument of financial sovereignty, serving defense and the building of lasting peace.”

With more than 250 billion CFA francs mobilized in nine months, the Patriotic Support Fund demonstrates that Burkina Faso’s financial sovereignty is not an empty phrase. It is a reality built by a united, determined people resolutely turned toward the future. An achievement that deserves to be saluted and that inspires all of Africa.
