Third Russia–Africa Summit: President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo heads to Moscow

The President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, H.E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, left Malabo International Airport on Monday, 26 October, bound for Moscow. He will take part in the third Russia–Africa Summit, scheduled for 28–29 October 2026 in the Russian capital.

The Head of State is accompanied by the First Lady of the Nation, Constancia Mangue de Obiang.

The meeting will bring together several African leaders and representatives of the Russian Federation to explore new avenues for political, economic and commercial cooperation.

The summit agenda covers several strategic areas, including investment, energy, food security, infrastructure and technological development.

These themes reflect the desire of both sides to expand their exchanges beyond simple diplomatic relations.

This is the third edition of the summit, after those held in Sochi in 2019 and St Petersburg in 2023.

At the first edition, the Equatorial Guinean president personally took part in the proceedings, while in 2023 the country was represented by the Vice-President of the Republic.

The visit follows that of the Russian ambassador accredited to Equatorial Guinea, who delivered the official invitation from President Vladimir Putin on 30 September.

It reflects Malabo’s desire to strengthen its ties with Moscow and explore new partnership opportunities for the benefit of national development.
