Rapper Nicki Minaj appeared with Donald Trump at a Michigan rally on Sunday, telling the crowd the president has “changed the energy of the country” and “given us a future to look forward to.” Minaj, who has called herself Trump’s “number one fan” despite criticizing some first-term policies, wore a gold Gucci suit and led chants for Trump and Michigan Republican candidates. She said the election was “a major turning point.”
Trump praised Minaj as “smart” and “beautiful,” and before introducing her made a remark about a male Republican candidate’s rear end before saying of Minaj: “That’s hard to miss.” He asked her to stand and said he hoped she was not insulted.
Minaj traveled with Trump aboard Air Force One and posted a video on X pretending to interview for White House press secretary, a post open after Katie Zacharia departed five days into a shaky public debut.
The rally came just over a week before 3 November midterms, with Michigan’s Senate race tight between Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers.
Trump attacked El-Sayed over his Muslim faith, alleging he would “invite jihadists.”
El-Sayed called such remarks Islamophobic, saying Trump is using his faith to distract from economic suffering. Barack Obama rallied with El-Sayed on Saturday.
