Burkina Faso: The 2027 budget is projected to have revenue of 4,200 billion CFA francs and expenditure of 4,800 billion CFA francs

Burkina Faso is preparing its budget for 2027. The draft finance bill, adopted by the Council of Ministers, must now be sent to the Transitional Legislative Assembly for the rest of the procedure.

According to the Minister of Economy and Finance, Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, this budget is projected at 4,200 billion CFA francs in revenue, against 4,800 billion CFA francs in expenditure. This gap of 600 billion CFA francs corresponds to the financing need to be covered.

These forecasts fall within the framework of the R.E.L.A.N.C.E. plan and aim in particular to support economic growth. In a context marked by numerous challenges, the State intends to direct its resources toward areas considered decisive for the country’s future.

The resources should make it possible to support several priority sectors. Agriculture features prominently, as part of the pursuit of food self-sufficiency. Industrialization is also on the agenda, with the ambition to process more national wealth locally and create added value.

Equipping the National Armed Forces is another major focus. In a country engaged in the fight against terrorism, strengthening the capabilities of combat forces remains a priority in order to protect populations and reclaim territory.

Finally, improving basic social sectors, such as health and education, is among the objectives so that the benefits of growth are felt in the daily lives of Burkinabè people.

After its adoption by the Council of Ministers, the draft finance bill enters the parliamentary phase. The deputies of the Transitional Legislative Assembly will examine it, amend it if necessary, and then vote on it before it takes effect.

Beyond the figures, the challenge lies in the State’s ability to mobilize the projected revenue. This requires an efficient tax and customs administration, an attractive business climate, and rigorous management of public spending, so that every franc spent has a real impact on the ground.

This 2027 budget thus illustrates the Transition authorities’ desire to reconcile several urgent priorities: securing the territory, feeding the populations, building a more productive economy, and improving social services. The budget choices that will be ratified by the deputies will show to what extent these priorities can be pursued simultaneously. The parliamentary debate will therefore be closely watched.

A clarification: your text refers to a “balanced” budget whereas the figures show a deficit of 600 billion CFA francs. I therefore wrote “projected” in the title and in the text. If the official source does indeed use “balanced” (for example by including financing), verify the amounts before publication
